It looks like WhatsApp is finally gearing up to rake some moolah. The most popular instant messaging platform has appointed Facebook executive Matt Idema as their new COO.
Idema was leading product marketing for all of Facebook’s business products worldwide. Although his exact role is not known, “monetization will be a key focus”, a company spokesperson told ReCode. The Facebook owned messaging app has been providing its service free to all its users worldwide ever since launch.
Last year in January, WhatsApp had announced that it will no longer charge subscription fees for using the service. It also said it will not be introducing third-party ads to compensate. The instant messaging service is used by more than 1.2 billion users monthly.
